Surprise visit to The Little Sisters of the Poor

I had the pleasure of paying a surprise visit to The Little Sisters of the Poor’s Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home for the elderly at Akwunanaw, a place that holds a special place in my heart. My previous visit was memorable, and I was eager to reunite with the residents and staff who had left such a lasting impression on me.

I was warmly enveloped by the home’s welcoming atmosphere as I arrived. The staff were kind and attentive, and the residents were well cared for. I was impressed by the facility’s cleanliness and organisation, a testament to the love and care that goes into running the home.

The staff and residents greeted me with open arms, and it felt like a homecoming. I was excited to reconnect with the residents and hear about their lives since my last visit. I’m always happy seeing them all, but one person, in particular, I was always looking forward to seeing again was the oldest resident, who had left a lasting impact on me during my first visit. She always asked me to come back to see her.

When we reunited, it was like no time had passed at all. We shared a warm embrace, and her strength and resilience deeply moved me.

I recalled her mentioning some leg issues during my previous visit. I ensured the medical team, led by the exceptional Dr. Yomi Jaye, the SPA on Health, checked on her and provided necessary assistance.

The medical team was prompt and professional, thoroughly examining her legs and providing additional support and guidance to manage discomfort. I was grateful to see her receiving the care she needed. I also had the esteemed Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otigi accompanied me to the facilities to support the home’s continued growth and development.
